Dollar General looking at possible new store in Hoyt area
Dollar General is interested in building a second store in Jackson County, it has been reported.
“We are currently in the due diligence phase for a new location at 110th Road and U.S. Highway 75 in Hoyt, which means we’re interested in adding a new location to Jackson County but have not committed to doing so yet,” according to Nolan Miles, communications coordinator with Dollar General in Goodlettsville, Tenn. “Based on our current timeline, I anticipate a final decision will not be made on this project until early fall.”
Dollar General currently has one store in Holton, which was built in 1999. Miles said that new store locations must meet certain criteria.
“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority,” Miles added. “The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice. We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five mile radius, or 10-minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”
If built, Miles said the Hoyt store would employ approximately six to 10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store.
New “built-to-suit” Dollar General stores range between 9,000 to 9,500 square-feet on approximately one to one and a quarter acres of land, it was reported.
Dollar General has more than 12,000 stores throughout its 43 state operation area.
There are currently nine Dollar General stores in the Topeka area, as well as stores in Valley Falls, Oskaloosa, Perry and Horton.
