Community band sets concert schedule

The Jackson County Community Band is gearing up for its fourth annual summer concert series.

The band’s first rehearsal was held on Sunday, and Jayme Malsom, one of the community band directors, said that future rehearsals will be held at 7 p.m. at the Holton High School band room on June 5, June 21, June 28 and July 17.

“We had on average about 25 to 30 members last year,” Malsom said. “We are hoping for more this year with band directors from other area schools coming into play this summer.”

Malsom said that band, which is comprised of adults and students in the community, will play a variety of music this summer, including marches, show tunes, music from movies and “just plain old good summertime music.”

Band concerts scheduled for this summer include:

* 7 p.m. Sunday, June 12, on the Holton Square.

* 7 p.m. Saturday, June 25, on the Holton Square.

* 8 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at the chapel at Banner Creek Reservoir.

* 7 p.m. Saturday, July 23, on the Holton Square.

“We always love to have new members come and play with us,” Malsom said. “As long as folks have some band experience, they are welcome to come in and play.”
