Body found identified as Silver Lake man
The body of the deceased person found near Nebo State Fishing Lake on Sunday afternoon has been identified as Jon Paul Sumpter, a 32-year-old Silver Lake man, Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse reports.
The cause of death is still unknown, Morse said is a press release Monday evening.
The deceased person was found by a hunter shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday.
The body was taken to Frontier Forensics in Kansas City for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Morse said.
Sumpter, according to Sheriff Morse, was a possible suspect in a Topeka kidnapping reported on Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Day, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office recovered a stolen black 2005 Ford Escape in the area of 214th and Y Road. That vehicle had been reported stolen in Topeka and was believed to have been involved in a kidnapping there, Morse said.
Sumpter’s body was found just three-quarters of a mile from where the vehicle was found in December, it was reported.
