RV catches fire Sunday on U.S. 75 near Mayetta

Northbound traffic on U.S. Highway 75 was diverted just south of Mayetta for almost three hours Sunday morning after a recreational vehicle caught fire at 158th Road and U.S. 75, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse.

A 2013 Hurricane 29X motor home (shown above at right) caught fire at 9:40 a.m. and was completely destroyed. Two people were inside the vehicle when it caught fire, but no injuries were reported, Morse said. The RV and two occupants were from Georgia. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Mayetta Fire Department, the Hoyt Fire Department and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Fire Department and Police responded to the incident.

The cause of the fire is still being determined, but Morse reports that it may have been an electrical issue.
