Runners battle rain in state cross-country races

Umbrellas and ponchos were out in force on Saturday at the Wamego Country Club, where members of Holton High School’s girls cross-country team, including seniors Eva Cortes (center, 260) and Maya Doney (near left, 261), ran in a rain-soaked state cross-country championship race for girls in Class 4A schools. Three HHS runners in that race medaled, as did Royal Valley senior Dominick Schnider in the Class 3A boys run, held at Rim Rock Farm near Lawrence.
