Jackson County Fair's Grand Champions

The Jackson County Fair is celebrating 100 years this year, and the county’s 4-H youth brought out their best livestock to show and earn grand champion awards.

In the first photo, Makenna Tyler (shown at right) of the Mayetta Mustangs showed the grand champion market steer, a crossbred that also won top honors in the middleweight category, during Tuesday’s beef show. Shown with Tyler at left is beef show judge Josh Nelson.

In the second photo, Harper Mitchell (at right), also of the Mayetta Mustangs, showed the grand champion market hog, a crossbred hog that also won top honors in its class, at Tuesday’s swine show. Mitchell, who also showed the grand champion breeding gilt at the swine show, is joined by Nelson, who also judged the show.

And in the third photo, Lora Larison (center) of the Pleasant Valley Rustlers showed the grand champion market lamb, which also earned top honors in the crossbred classes at Monday’s sheep show. Larison, who showed the grand champion market lamb at the 2023 fair and who also showed the grand champion market ewe at Monday’s show, is flanked by sheep and goat show judge Taylor Harrison (at left) and 4-H Ambassador Emberlee Allen (at right).
