Royal Valley 3A State Runner-up
Royal Valley’s girls basketball team took second place at the Class 3A basketball tournament in Hutchinson on Saturday, making school history despite the loss to the number one seed Garden Plain, 49-39.
“While a lot people see us as a Cinderella success story, I really think behind that, we saw a tremendous change in our girls in how they handled adversity and how they approached situations that were tough this season,” said first-year RV head coach Kyle Porter. “We talked about riding the wave of adversity. Adversity is going to come, but you just have to ride it out and good things will happen. I think our kids really believed in each other and believed they could find ways to win games.”
The RV girls beat Nemaha Central and Hay-Thomas More Prep to reach the 3A state title game.
