11 wrestlers headed to state
This Friday and Saturday, 11 high school wrestlers from Jackson County will compete with grapplers from across Kansas for a shot at a state title in the state wrestling tournament.
Holton High School will send five wrestlers — Justin Pool, Tyler Price, Justin Rieschick, Kyler Tannahill and Tel Wittmer — to Salina’s Bicentennial Center for the Class 4A state wrestling tournament.
Six wrestlers from Royal Valley High School — Lance Bailey, Jacob Box, Noah Hart, Zack Lux, Charles Todd and Dalton Ware — will travel to Hays to take part in the Class 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament, to be held at Gross Memorial Coliseum on the Fort Hays State University campus.
On Friday, ticket sales begin and general admission gates open at 8 a.m. at all state wrestling tournament sites. The first round will begin at 10 a.m., followed by second-round championship quarterfinals at noon and first-round consolation matches at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, ticket sales begin and general admission gates will open at 7 a.m., with consolation cross-bracketing matches to start at 9 a.m., followed by consolation quarterfinals at 10:45 a.m., consolation semifinals at 12:15 p.m., fifth-place matches at 2 p.m. and consolation finals at 3 p.m. The “Parade of Champions” will begin 40 minutes after the conclusion of consolation finals, followed by championship finals.
