Bissitts to celebrate 50th wedding anniversary


Duane and Jan Bissitt of Holton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, Aug. 22.

Janet Grogan and Duane Bissitt were married at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center on Aug. 22, 1964. After graduating the following year from Ottawa University, Jan started her teaching career at Pomona Grade School while Duane pursued his master’s degree from Emporia State, where he also taught and coached at Roosevelt, which was the campus high school.

For the next 40 years, they both taught and coached. Ten years were spent at Halstead and 30 years were at Holton USD 336, where they retired in 2006.

The couple will celebrate their anniversary with their son, Derek, and his wife, Kathy, of Concordia; grandchildren, Beau Bissitt of Topeka, Brielle Rice and her husband, Joe, of Holton, and Baron Bissitt of Concordia; great-grandson, Grant Rice of Holton; and Duane’s mother, Nelle Taylor of Holton.
