Christal Hannigan and Joshua Coufal were married at 5 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2017, in an outdoor ceremony overlooking the lake at the Topeka Zoological Park. A candlelit dinner reception followed.

Ushers were Julian Jenkins of Topeka, Marcy Gonzalez of Topeka and Garin Sloan of Pittsburg. The men wore navy suits with navy suspenders and hot pink vests and ties.

The guests enjoyed private after hours’ access to the zoo while the couple tossed a bouquet to the hippo, fed other animals and watched the elephants paint them a set of pictures.

Dinner was catered by Pacha’s and featured carved strip steak, praline chicken, a trio of whipped potatoes, fall harvest salad, fresh sautéed vegetables and homemade rolls.

The groom’s cake contained layers of carrot and red velvet cake and featured a hunting and fishing theme. The traditional wedding cake had four layers, sweet almond, chocolate, fresh strawberry and Chai spice. It was decorated with fresh flowers.

The groom is the son of David and Cynthia Coufal of Holton and Sherryl and Mark Ferretti of Topeka. He is the grandson of Kathryn and the late Lee Axelton of Topeka and Marcia and the late John Coufal of Holton.
