Wanda Albright 1941-2018

Wanda K. Albright, 77, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Midland Hospice House.

She was a 1958 graduate of High land Park High School, a 1982 graduate of Washburn University with an Associate of Arts degree and a 1983 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She was then accepted into The University of Kansas’ one-year Advanced Standing Program. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1984. She received honors at both universities. 

Wanda served on multiple boards, including the Board of Directors of Kanza Mental Health Center, representing Jackson County, the Foundry Board of Directors of Hoyt, with the group’s goal of having a hospice in Jackson County. She was also a volunteer for Topekans Against Crime as a rape counselor, as well as a volunteer at the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department, along with her friend Pat G.

Wanda was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Female Executives of America and she enjoyed being a member of Phi Kappa Phi’s National Honors Society. She was also trained for biofeedback and energy. Wanda was a proud lifetime member of the Cooking Club of America. She was an avid reader and greatly loved her books. Wanda was known for her good sense of humor, and that she absolutely loved K.U. basketball games. Rock Chalk Jayhawks KU!!!

Wanda belonged to Luther Place I Chapel. It was formed in 2012 with our devoted Chaplain, Tony Martin, her best friend, Betty Webster, and herself. Mid-week Bible study was also developed.

Wanda married Donald L. Keim Sr. on Aug. 31, 1958. They were later divorced. Of this union are three children, Cindy K. Keim, Donald L. Keim II and Derrick L. Keim. 

Wanda married Darrel E. Albright on Feb. 20, 1966. They were later divorced in 1992. Of this union are two children, Tammy K. Albright-Cochran and Dusty E. Albright. 

She had 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two precious felines, Lily and Swather. 

As per Wanda’s request, there will be no service. She was cremated, and interment will be held at a later date in Hoyt Cemetery. In lieu of flowers she asks that memorials be made to the C.A.T. Association, 1719 S.W. Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66604; or Heart of Jackson Humane Society, 414 E. Eighth St., Holton, KS 66436; or to the charity of your choice.
