Violet Martin 1928-2020

Violet Marie (Blackburn) Martin, 91, of Holton, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2020 ,at Vintage Park in Holton.

She was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Sabetha, the daughter of Ben and Irene (Bowron) Fletchell. She graduated from Sabetha High School.

On Nov. 27, 1947, Violet was united in marriage Lloyd Blackburn in Sabetha. They shared 22 years of marriage before Lloyd passed away on April 6, 1969.

She later married Ron Martin on Nov. 5, 1978. They spent more than 42 happy years on their farm south of Holton.

Violet worked for more than 20 years as the bookkeeper for the Jackson Farmers Co-Op. She also helped her husband Lloyd, who owned and operated Blackburn Plumbing, Heating and Electric.

Violet sewed all her own clothes, cross-stitched, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, watching birds and had several Martin bird houses. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family.

She was a member of the Wetmore American Legion Auxiliary Post 282.

Survivors include her husband, Ron; two sons, James K. Blackburn (Diane) of Parsons and Gary D. Blackburn (Cynthia) of Topeka; five stepchildren, Judy Hinman (Wade) of Mayetta, Chuck Martin of Topeka, Lanna Kellnhofer (Bill) of Lawrence, Belinda Hopkins (Mel) of Georgia and Debbie Collins of Hoyt; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Holton Cemetery. Violet will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19.
