Verna Wahweotten 1960-2017

 

Verna Jean “Wen-be-quah” Wahweotten, 56, Mayetta, died Saturday, July 22, 2017.

She was born Dec. 14, 1960, in Holton, the daughter of Vernon and Rosemary Masquat Wahweotten.

Ms. Wahweotten was a home­maker. She was a lifetime member of the Jackson County community and spent most of her life on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reserva­tion.

She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. She was a member of the Drum Religion and sat on the Marshno Drum.

She married William Dwight Wilbur in Mayetta. They divorced.

Survivors include her father, Vernon Wahweotten, Mayetta; three daughters, Nis Wilbur, Topeka, Keeg Toledo and husband Ricardo, Mayetta, and Meex Wilbur and husband Patrick, Topeka; three sisters, Barbara Evans, Mayetta, Lisa Wahweotten, Topeka, and Denise Wahweotten, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Alan Wahweotten, Mayetta; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosemary Masquat Wahweotten; and a brother, Joe Wahweotten.

Drum services will be held Tuesday evening at the Dance­ground Building. Burial will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Masquat Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
