Verna Goodman 1931-2020

Verna Jewell Goodman, 89, Hiawatha, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020.

She was born Feb. 5, 1931, the daughter of Zena Sutherland and Harold Smith of Wetmore.

Mrs. Goodman worked as a keypad data operator and a receptionist at The University of Kansas Medical Center. She also delivered the St. Joseph, Mo. newspaper for 25 years.

She married Charles Marion Adams in 1954 in Junction City. He died in 1964. She married Merlin Goodman in 1992. He died in 2018. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Keith and Vincent; a sister, LaVerne; and three stepchildren, Randy, Tracy Glenn and Richard “Dickie” Goodman.

Survivors include three children, John Adams and wife Melanie, Stover, Mo., and Kristy Doyle and husband Thomas and James Adams and wife Tamara, all of Hiawatha; two stepchildren, Liz Babb and husband Dan and Donna Halstead and husband Daniel; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Celebration of life services were held Saturday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God of Hiawatha, with Pastor Jim Farris officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Wetmore Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Verna Goodman Memorial Fund, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S. Seventh St., Hiawatha, KS 66434.
