Velma Morris (1944-2022)

Velma Catherine Morris, 78, Rossville, formerly of Topeka, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022 at the Oakley Place of Rossville. She was born April 2, 1944, the daughter of Bernard A. Niehues, Jr. and Alfreda Teresa (Kramer) Niehues.

 Mrs. Morris worked as a retirement benefit specialist for KPERS for more than 16 years before retiring in 2004.

She married Merwin D. “Bud” Morris on Feb. 3, 1962, in Corning. He died July 8, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Alfreda Niehues Jr.; a son, David D. Morris; a sister; and three brothers.

Survivors include her son, Stephen “Steve” Morris, Topeka; four sisters; and three brothers.

Mrs. Morris will lie in state at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, with visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private family burial will be held at the Holton Cemetery.
