Valent Swanson 1949-2017

Valent F. Swanson, 68, Mayetta, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at Village Villa in Nortonville.

He was born June 9, 1949, in Phillipsburg, Pa., the son of Gilbert and Catherine Idjzotic Swanson. He attended Spring Grove High School in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Valent served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He lived in Mayetta for about three years and lived for more than 43 years in Pennsylvania. He was a construction foreman for Kinsley Construction in Pennsylvania.

He was a member of Light House Bible Church in Topeka, East Berlin V.F.W., Hanover Moose Lodge, American Legion, Marine Corp League, Eagle Riders and Cooties.

He married Sonia N. Godfrey on Jan. 22, 1972, in Pennsylvania. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Tami Shoemaker and husband Brad, Holton; two granddaughters, Jennifer Norris and husband Joe and Julia Donaldson and husband Brentt; a great-granddaughter, Adeline Norris; a sister, Melinda Illyes, in Florida; and a brother, Richard Swanson, in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angie Swanson; and a brother, Allen Swanson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 29 at Feiser Funeral Home in East Berlin, Pa. Burial will follow in East Berlin Union Cemetery.
