Troy Hickman 1949-2019

Our Heavenly Father has come and taken his child, Troy Wilbur Hickman (also known as “Triple T”), 69, home on Friday, August 9, 2019. Troy lost his battle with gastric cancer, with family by his side.

He was born Sept. 19, 1949, in Holton, the son of Doyle W. and Jennie Jane (Mack) Hickman.

Troy attended Topeka schools and graduated from Escondido Union High School in California. In 1968, he attended Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, Calif., earning his doctorate of motors. He worked for Goodyear Tire Company in the 1970s for 10 years. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 15 years as bridge crew supervisor, retiring in 2014. For 38 years he was also an over-the-road truck driver, most recently working for MNT of Topeka.

He was a member of Lakeview Church of the Nazarene in Topeka and a charter member of Citizens Emergency Radio Team.

Troy married Linda Sue Carlson on April 15, 2000. They celebrated more than 19 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Carlson-Hickman, of the home; four sons, Ron Hickman of California, Md., Danny Hickman of Luther, Okla., Scott Hickman of Chickasha, Okla., and Clinton Carlson of Auburn; four daughters, Bonnie Rusch of Thornton, Colo., Shelly Barrington of Chickasha, Okla., and Doris Jean Carlson and Rae Ann Hubbard, both of Topeka; two stepbrothers, John Mayhew of Olathe and Gary Mayhew of Fontana; two stepsisters, Sandy Schweitzer of Topeka and Sherry Frost of Seven Spring, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle W. Hickman; his mother, Jennie J. Barnes; his daughter, Michelle Hickman; a brother, Doyle F. Hickman; a stepbrother, Dick Mayhew; and a stepsister, Joyce Corber.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Olive Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday prior to service.
