Thelma Young 1941-2021

Thelma Jean Young, 79, Las Vegas, N.M., formerly of Whiting, died Monday, May 24, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Payson, Ariz.

She was born Dec. 8, 1941, in Horton, the daughter of Henry Richard and Helen Lava Irey Brown. She graduated from Whiting High School. She lived 18 years in Whiting, four years in Atchison, two years in Raton, N.M., and 56 years in Las Vegas, N.M.

Ms. Young retired from various jobs as a bookkeeper and in clerical sales. She owned and operated TJ’s Helping Hands.

She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Whiting.

She married Carroll D. Young on May 16, 1959, in Whiting. They divorced.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Young, Payson, Ariz.; a son, Randy Young, Prescott, Ariz.; two sisters, Beverly Searcy, Peoria, Ill., and Shirley Martin, Fairfield, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Derek A. Young, Kevin A. Young and Sarah N. Young, all of Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Hollander.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 2 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery at Whiting. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
