Steven Gray 1953-2020

Steven Melville Gray, 66, Hoyt, died Monday, May 11, 2020, at his home, surrounded by family.

He was born June 25, 1953, in Denver, Colo., the son of Melville and Frances Herring Gray. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1971.

Mr. Gray had worked as a welder and also taught welding at Kaw Valley Vo-Tech School in Topeka. He also worked for KDOT, and for the last 20 years had owned and operated Gray’s Trucking.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He married Karen Dillon on Sept. 24, 1976, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Jacob Gray and wife Sonja, Perry; a daughter, Hannah Johnson and husband Dennis, Mayetta; a brother, Tom Page and wife Pati, Grand Prairie, Texas; a sister, Susan Kramer and husband Tom, Independence, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kaileigh, Hunter, Katelyn, Tyler, Walker and Coy; and a great-granddaughter, Brynleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Muddy Creek Cemetery, east of Hoyt. Mr. Gray will lie in state from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt.
