Stephen Ramirez Sr. 1966-2015
Stephen Douglas “Sha-Wah-Sa” Ramirez Sr., 48, Hiawatha, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at Hiawatha Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1966, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of John and Charlene Green Ramirez.
Mr. Ramirez worked for Wilde Toole in Hiawatha for the last 11 years.
He was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe.
He married Donna Nioce on Aug. 25, 2001, in Whiting. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Charlene Ramirez Whitebird, Horton; two daughters, Stevie Jo Ramirez and Marcine Wewenis, both of Horton; a son, Stephen Ramirez Jr., Horton; four stepdaughters, Jane Nioce, Falls City, Neb., Natalie Nioce, Hiawatha, and Arlene Negonsott and Roxanne Harrison, both of Horton; two stepsons, Seth Robinson Jr., El Paso, Texas, and Grant Wewenis, Mayetta; his mother-in-law, Yvonne Negonsott, Hiawatha; three brothers, Ron Ramirez, Horton, Daniel Ramirez, Topeka, and Johnny Lee Ramirez, Farmington, N.M.; four sisters, Carla Cavin, Horton, Rose Baker, Hiawatha, Deb Juliff, Kansas City, Mo., and Elizabeth Newland, Horton; 13 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Ramirez; a grandson, Kamillo Langi; and a brother-in-law, Jim Cavin.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Church Of The Lord Jesus Christ Church in Horton. Burial was held in Kennekuk Indian Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton is in charge of arrangements.
