Shirley Flanders 1935-2018

Shirley J. Flanders, 83, of Topeka, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at Midland Hospice House.

She was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Topeka, the daughter of Walter and Cora Alice (Love) Sharrai.

Shirley graduated from Denton High School in 1952. She lived in California for 38 years and later moved to Topeka in 1997. She worked as security guard for Advanced Micro Device, as a manager for Baskin Robbins, both in California, and was also a clerk for Walgreen’s in Topeka.

She married Richard L. Flanders on Nov. 25, 1953, in Siloam Springs, Ark.; they had celebrated more than 64 years of marriage. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include her four children, Richard D. Flanders (Sun) of Abilene, Texas, Terry L. Flanders of Topeka, Cheryl A. Anderson (Michael) of Redding, Calif., and Mark D. Flanders (Sheila) of Texas City, Texas; a sister, Phyllis Hirst (Darold) of Overland Park; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Flanders and Patricia Dohrman.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Olive Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends on hour prior to service time.
