Shirlene Seymour 1959-2021

Shirlene Fawn “Sogmahquah” Seymour, 61, Winnebago, Neb., died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

She was born Aug. 23, 1959, in Holton, the daughter of Melvin Twin and Alberta Marie Nagmo. She graduated from Royal Valley High School in 1977 and earned her associate’s degree in counseling at Washburn University.

Ms. Seymour worked for the Drug Dependency Unit at Indian Health Service in Winnebago, Neb., as an alcohol and drug counselor.

She was a member of the Drum Religion and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.

Survivors include three children, Carolyn Seymour and husband Justin Lasley and Andrea F. Alvarado and husband Daniel Kemp, all of Winnebago, Neb., and Shamoga Seymour and wife Leraine Biggoose, Lawrence; her adopted mother, Judy Wabaunsee; three sisters, Jackie Mitchell, Lisa Wamego and Edie Wamego, all of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation; six brothers, Eddie Joe Mitchell, Randy Mitchell, John LeClere, Mando Evans and Lavern Hale, all of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation, and Leo Mitchell, Valley Falls; eight grandchildren, MweKwe, KiWenKe, Sineyah, Wanopahzi, Shipshee, WebTeTek, Charli and Winter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Twin and Alberta Marie Nagmo Wamego; a sister, Sandra Mitchell; and four brothers, Gary, Larry and Andrew Mitchell and Mike Wamego.

A private family supper and wake were held Monday evening at the Danceground Building on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation. Burial was held Tuesday at Takako Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
