Sharon Haxton 1936-2019
Sharon Zabel Haxton, 83, formerly of Wetmore, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at her home in New Port Richey, Fla.
She was born March 17, 1936, in Wetmore, the daughter of Charles and Etta Gold Zabel. She graduated from Wetmore High School.
Sharon was united in marriage to Gary Haxton, her high school sweetheart, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New Port Richey, Fla.
A celebration mass was held at St. Stephen’s on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019. Her ashes will be interred with those of her husband at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Fort Collins, Colo.
Sharon was a legal secretary for most of her adult life. She loved dancing and traveling. Tennis became one of her passions during retirement. She volunteered with and generously supported the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New Port Richey.
Sharon is survived by Buddy, her beloved Pomeranian; relatives in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Minnesota and Florida; and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Charlotte Zabel Noe and Shirley Zabel Clark; and two half-brothers, Richard and William Zabel. Sharon knew how to enjoy life. She will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
