Sandy Roush-Williams 1956-2019

Sandra Lee “Sandy” Roush-Williams, 62, of Holton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at her home with family by her side. Sandy fought a long and courageous battle with liver cancer.

She was born Dec. 27, 1956, in Richmond, Va., the daughter of Thomas W. and Dorothy “Pal” (Dalton) Hanenkrat.

Sandy graduated from Lawrence High School in 1975. She received her associate of arts degree at Highland Community College in 1993; she was also on the President’s Honor Roll.

She retired from Royal Valley School District. She also served Holton schools and Jackson Heights schools during her career.

Sandy was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church. At the church, she also served on the Worship Team Life Journey Service, Jail Ministry Team, Tween Girls Fellowship Leader and former Sunday School teacher and youth leader. She earned awards for C.A.R.E.S., Inc. as a Certified Assistance Therapy Dog Team 2006-2014, Kansas Kairos Prison Ministry Volunteer, Recipient of Susanna Wesley Award in 2018 by EUM Methodist Men, volunteer for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Project A.C.T. Victims Services and Honorary Member of Kansas Sheriff’s Association.

She married David T. Roush in 1975 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death in 2005. She married C.E. “Gene” Williams in 2008 in Holton. He preceded her in death in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her two sons, Brian Roush of Wetmore and Michael Roush (Kristi) of Holton; her daughter, Alison Olson of Holton; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Kolby and Dalton Roush, Kreighton and Kade Roush and Kevin and Brody Olson; sister, Judy Smith (Eric) of Lawrence; twin sister, Susan Davies (Barry) of Kansas City; mother-in-law, Martha Roush of Holton; sisters-in-law, Lisa Roush-Clark (Elza) of Lawrence and Mary McCrory (Jim) of Denison; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
