Samuel Carriker 1935-2018
Samuel Delbert Carriker, 82, Mayetta, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Sept. 15, 1935 in Roscoe, Mo., the son of Ulysses E. and Nancy E. Kelly Carriker. He graduated from Eddyville Oregon High School and Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore.
Mr. Carriker served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1962 during the Korean War. He was a welder. He had lived in the Mayetta community since 2005 and had previously lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from 1991 to 2005 and in Hoquiam, Wash., for 20 years.
He attended Mayetta Christian Church. He was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He also was a Scout Master for several years.
He married Donna Rae Phillips on May 28, 1955, on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Terry Carriker and wife Trill, Porter, Wash., Gene Carriker and wife Dona, Rochester, Minn., Zane Carriker, Sarasota, Fla., and Mark Carriker and wife Teresa, Hoquiam, Wash.; three daughters, Beth Carriker, Mayetta, Jude Gentry and husband Russ, Edwardsville, and Wendy Miller and husband Bill, Lancaster; a sister, Earline Rider, Lehi, Utah; 29 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Carriker, in 2000, and a grandson, Casey Carriker, in 2007, both while serving in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors followed in Mayetta Cemetery.
