Ruth Ryan 1924-2019

Ruth Enid Ryan, 94, of rural Leavenworth County, died, Friday, June 7, 2019, at Lansing Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 24, 1924, in rural Jefferson County, the daughter of Samuel and Esther (Rogers) Means. 

Ruth attended school in both McLouth and Lansing and graduated from McLouth High School in 1941.

On Nov. 22, 1942, Ruth married Harry Michael Ryan in Basehor. He preceded her in death in 2012. She was also preceded in death by an infant child and three siblings, Warren (Louella) Means, Lela Grace (Richard) Lobb and Glen (Chick) Means.

She is survived by three children, Ed (Susan) Ryan of Hoyt, Ruth Ann Ryan of the home and Harold (Mary) Ryan of Lansing; four grandchildren, Amanda (Dustan) Ridder, Michael (Audrey) Ryan and Joel (Kathryn) Ryan and Lane (Morgan) Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Megan, Nathanael and Stella Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a homemaker and farm wife helping with the dairy, hog and beef operations through the years as well as tending a garden and canning and freezing produce while making great homemade meals. 

She served as president, secretary and treasurer of the Leavenworth County Farm Bureau organization. Ruth was involved in the Boling 4-H club and Fairmount Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and the women’s service group. She also served her community by working on the Leavenworth county election board for many years. 

Ruth and her husband loved to square dance and attend Boling Grange dances together. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She especially enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls and coconut cream pies to share at social outings. Ruth also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. 

She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed introducing them to the joys of living on a farm. Her kind smile and generous heart will not be forgotten.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 at R.L. Leintz Funeral Home in Leavenworth. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in McLouth Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Fairmount Methodist Church.
