Russell Stroup 1931-2016
Russell L. Stroup, 84, Holton, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County.
He was born Dec. 27, 1931 in Allen, the son of Walter and Florence Haywood Stroup.
Mr. Stroup worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 21 years and after retirement he volunteered at Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Hospital in Topeka.
He married Virginia Segrist. They divorced. He married Marcia Zink on Oct. 11, 1974, in Topeka. She died Oct. 16, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Stroup.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Stroup and wife Sharon, Holton; a daughter, Gayla Gurley and husband Vaughn, Pearland, Texas; a sister, Wilma Mae Eastman, Catonsville, Md.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. Graveside services for Mr. Stroup and his wife Marcia will be held at a later date in Spring Hill Cemetery at Whiting.
