Ruby Chase 1922-2015

 

Ruby Maxine Chase, 93, Grant­ville, formerly of Mayetta, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, in Topeka.

She was born May 26, 1922, in Denison, the daughter of Charley A. and Mabel E. Way Renfro. She graduated from Mayetta High School in 1940.

Mrs. Chase began working as a postal clerk in 1965 in Grantville, where she was appointed postmas­ter in 1973 and retired in 1984.

She was a lifetime member of O.E.S. in Mayetta, past member of National Association of Postmasters of the United States and the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers Pickers and Singers. She had attended the Potawatomi United Methodist Church in Mayetta.

She married Amos K. Chase on Oct. 5, 1940, in Lyndon. He died Sept. 24, 2000. She was also pre­ceded in death by a sister, Wilma Vaught; and two brothers, Walter and Charles Renfro.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Brink, Auburn, and Nancy Jo Rush, Perry; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial to fol­low in Mayetta Cemetery. Mrs. Chase will lie in state at the funeral home beginning this evening, and family will greet friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
