Roy Sewell 1918-2016
Roy E. Sewell, 97, Holton, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County.
He was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Kansas, the son of Hubert and May Powers Sewell. He attended country schools near Granada.
Mr. Sewell farmed in the Granada area in his early years and also worked for Ohse Meats and Hills Pet Nutrition, both in Topeka. He later worked as a roofer and in construction, retiring in the late 1990s.
He married Lois M. Niehaus on Dec. 23, 1939, in Hiawatha. She died May 22, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a son, Don Sewell, in 1981; three sisters, Grace McDaniel, Helen Gilbert and Mildred Lynn; and a brother, H.P. “Sonny” Sewell.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sledd, Kansas City; and a grandson, John H. Mellies, Huntington Beach, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Netawaka Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time.
