Rose Ellen (Patterson) Moppin, 72, Leavenworth, passed away at her residence surrounded by family on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1943, in Russell, Iowa, the daughter of William and Eva Burham Patterson.

Mrs. Moppin graduated from Jarbalo Rural School District in Iowa in 1962. She later worked as a dietitian for Leavenworth County until her retirement.

Rose loved gardening, fishing, cooking and spending time with her large family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to host large family dinners, always making sure that everyone had their favorite dish. She was very open and honest, always telling you exactly what she thought with a sweet and caring smile. She loved jewelry, accessories and Cadillacs. Rose was known as a loving mother, a caring grandmother and a wonderful sister and aunt.

She married Troy E. Moppin Jr. on Dec. 8, 1982, in Leavenworth. He survives of the home. Other survivors include one daughter, Tammy Tomrell and Jerry Harris of Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Bob Heckman and wife Suzanne of Leavenworth, Patrick Heckman and wife Kristy of McLouth, and Troy Moppin III and wife Kendra of Holton; four brothers, Larry Patterson, John Patterson and wife Teresa, all of Leavenworth, Dan Patterson and wife Linda of Meriden, and Bill Patterson and wife Susan of Weston, Mo.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Frances; and a great-granddaughter, Genevieve.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 28, at Belden Larkin Funeral Home in Leavenworth with Pastor Damian Efta of the Church of the Open Door officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memory Gardens in Leavenworth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a local chapter.
