Rose Ella Stelter 1925-2019

Rose Ella Stelter, 94, of Onaga, formerly of Blaine, died Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Onaga Health and Rehab. She was a long-time resident of the community.

Rose Ella was born on March 3, 1925, in Holton, the daughter of Karl and Elizabeth Schillinger Schumacher. She attended local schools and graduated from Holton High School in 1944. Rose Ella attended Emproria Teacher’s College during the summers and taught rural grade school in the winter. She taught school in Jackson, Leavenworth and Pottawatomie counties for 19 years. She graduated from Emporia in 1959.

Rose Ella married Almon Frank Stelter on June 10, 1962. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1991.

After her marriage, Rose Ella was a homemaker and farmwife. She was an excellent cook and a devoted mother. Rose Ella was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton and the church LWML. She served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher as well as the LWML vice-president. She was involved in Walk Kansas and the Jolly Friendship Club.

Rose Ella is suvived by her sons, Ron Stelter, of Manhattan, and Larry Stelter, of Blaine. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Louise Walder; and infant twins, William and Wilma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Luke Lutheran North Cemetery.

Rose Ella will lie in state on Tuesday, beginning at 4 p.m. at the church, where the family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to St. Luke Lutheran Church, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Kufahl Funeral Home.
