Rosalie Walrod 1938-2021

Rosalie Jo Walrod, 83, Mayetta, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, at the Midland Hospice House.

She was born June 21, 1938, at Horton, the daughter of Homer and Marjorie Schmitt Baskett. She graduated from Mayetta High School in 1956.

Mrs. Walrod was a homemaker. She had also worked at Hallmark Cards in Topeka and later at Hardee’s and Burger King in Holton and Topeka. She also provided child daycare at Mayetta.

She was a member of Mayetta Christian Church, the 4 Corner Club and Widowed Friends, and she attended senior centers in both Mayetta and Holton.

She married John Erick Walrod on Aug. 15, 1958, in Holton. He died March 3, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include three daughters, Tena Goehring, Topeka, Gena Addis and husband John, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Dena Walrod-LaBrecque and husband Randy, Hoyt; a brother, Ferol Baskett, Mountain Home, Ark.; seven grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in Holton Cemetery. Mrs. Walrod will lie in state Wednesday and until 1 p.m. Thursday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Family and friends will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
