Ronald Thonen 1936-2015
Ronald L. Thonen, 78, Circleville, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Holton Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Horton, the son of Roy and Helen Grannell Thonen. He graduated from Whiting High School in 1955.
Mr. Thonen served in the U.S. Navy for four years after high school. He was a bulldozer operator for himself and Floyd Ford of Wetmore. He also was a farmer and stockman for most of his life and later was a bus driver for the Jackson Heights school district for 10 years.
He married Rosemary L. Hollander on June 23, 1959, in Bremerton, Wash. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Cindie L. Hysten, Whiting, Terri L. Yamashita and husband Clay, Topeka, and Karen L. Thonen, Circleville; a son, Mark L. Thonen and wife Angela, Circleville; a sister, Nita Douglas, Plattsburg, N.Y.; two brothers, Kenneth Thonen and Michael Thonen, both of Topeka; two granddaughters, Christine and Emily Tappan; and four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jade, Reese and Zavier. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ann Thonen, in 1961; and a son, Warren D. Thonen, in 1969.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
