Ron Folk 1942-2016
Ronald Dean Folk, 74, Holton, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County.
He was born June 24, 1942, in Lorraine, the son of Guy and Sylvia Klima Folk. He graduated from Holyrood High School in 1960 and attended Emporia State for a year before transferring to Kansas State University, graduating in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and later graduated from Wichita State University in 1973 with a master's degree in education counseling.
Mr. Folk was an industrial arts teacher and basketball coach from 1965 to 1968 at Pawnee Rock High School in Pawnee Rock, and from 1968 to 1974, he served as a basketball coach at Clearwater High School, with three years as an industrial arts teacher and three years as a counselor. In 1974, he joined Holton Middle School as a counselor and basketball coach and served as HMS principal from 1975 to 1987. In 1987, he was named Holton High School principal and basketball coach. He retired in 2000.
He was a board member of Kansas State High School Activities Association and a long-time member of the Holton Country Club.
He married Janice Lee Brown on Sept. 1, 1962, in Holyrood. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Doug Folk and wife Shannon, Shawnee, and Scott Folk and wife Dee, Holton; a sister, Sharon Poor, Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Dylan, Clayton, Blayne and Rafe Folk, Aaron Brooks and wife Suzette, Taylor Brooks and Chandler Folk; and four great-grandchildren, Brylee, Ellie, Carter and Mason.
A celebration of Mr. Folk’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Holton Country Club. Family will greet friends until 2 p.m. after the service. Inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery in Holyrood.
