Romona Powers 1936-2017
Romona E. Powers, 81, Holton, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at her home.
She was born Jan. 8, 1936, in Hazlehurst, Miss., the daughter of Henry C. and Ruth J. Chancelor Brent. She attended school in Albany, Calif. She had lived in Holton since 1978 and previously in Ohio.
Ms. Powers worked for Slimaker Dress Factory in Onaga for more than 20 years and also worked as a bartender at Lucy’s Tavern in Holton.
She was a practicing Southern Baptist.
Survivors include a sister, Ruby E. Behrends, Burlington; nine nieces, including Peggie Zirger, Tara Elliott and Shirley Pennington, who served as caregivers in recent months; three nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Ruth Rogers; two brothers, Marvin Leroy Brent and William Henry Brent; and a great-great-nephew, Travis Ketron, in 2016.
Graveside services were held Tuesday morning in Holton Cemetery.
