Robert Holt Sr. 1945-2021
Robert “Bob” Leon Holt Sr., 76, of Mayetta, passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 22, 1945 in Topeka, the son of Paul and Blanche Cornelia (Sheley) Holt.
On Nov. 10, 1962, Robert was united in marriage to Karen H. Brown in Topeka. They shared more than 59 years of marriage. To this union they shared four children: Della, Jessica, Brenda and Robert Jr.
Robert worked for more than 31 years for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 2001.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967 during the Vietnam War. Robert was a member and Past Commander of Holton VFW Post 1367, and he was also a member of Mayetta American Legion Post 410.
Robert was preceded death by his parents; two infant daughters, Carol and Sharon Holt; a son, Daniel Holt; and a sister, Jessie Holt.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Karen Holt, of the home; three daughters, Della Tillman (Zane) of Wakarusa, Jessica Horr (Brian) of Holton and Brenda Johnson (Mike) of Mayetta; a son, Robert Leon Holt Jr. (Heather) of Mayetta; a brother, John Holt (Dorothy) of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and 1 “on the way”; and numerous extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Hoyt Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the funeral home.
