Robert Baum 1935-2016
Robert “Bob” Baum, 80, Holton, died Friday, April 1, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County.
He was born April 7, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Ernest Roy and Mary Kathryn (Warren) Baum. He graduated from Holton High School in 1953.
Mr. Baum served in the Army National Guard for eight years. He had lived in the Holton community for more than 70 years. He was owner and operator of Robert Baum Motors for 28 years and also owned and operated Sears Catalog Store and Cellar Restaurant both in Holton. In earlier years he worked for Laird Noller Ford.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Holton Masonic Lodge, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Holton Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Holton Volunteer Fire Department and Holton Eagles Club. He was on the Holton Football Chain Gang for 50 years, retiring in 2012.
He married Carol Finn on Feb. 28, 1964, in Holton. They divorced. He married Norma Marshall Strawn on June 13, 1987, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, David Baum and wife Pam, Holton, Mike Baum and wife Ranae, Topeka, and Scott Baum and wife Susan, Holton; three stepdaughters, Tammy Moulden and husband Mark, Holton, Monica House and husband Sherman, Lake Waukomis, Mo., and Lisa Strydom and husband Dave, Topeka; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private family burial will be held in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
