Richard Lassiter 1935-2018
Richard Marion Lassiter, 82, Denison, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Valley Falls, the son of Frank Marion and Sarah Elizabeth Boydston Lassiter. He graduated from Denison High School in 1954.
Mr. Lassiter served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964 as a military policeman. He was a farmer. He also worked as a coach carpenter for Santa Fe Railroad, for the State of Kansas Fish and Game Department and for the City of Denison.
He attended Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton.
He married Rosalie E. Bailey on Jan. 26, 1959, in Paonia, Colo. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Janette “Beth” Lassiter-Smith, Topeka, Richard “Dick” Lassiter and wife Thresa and Keith Lassiter, all of Denison, and Jennifer Ingels and husband Kevin, Holton; a brother, Don Lassiter and wife Elke, Ozawkie; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Lida Lassiter; and a brother, Francis Lassiter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Denison Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
