Ralph Spellmeier 1947-2018

Ralph Paul Spellmeier, 70, Hoyt, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018.

He was born May 16, 1947, the son of Marvin and Pauline Puvogel Spellmeier. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1965 and attended Highland Junior College.

Mr. Spellmeier worked at Hydra Tool and later for Goodyear Tire and Rubber, retiring after 41 years.

He was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 534 and the United Steel Workers.

He married Mary Lou Heinen on June 3, 1967, at St. Mary’s Church in Purcell. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Stacey Wray and husband Tommy, Topeka; a son, Jonathan Spellmeier and wife Jade, Goodland; four granddaughters, Kaylee, Kenzie, Madalyn and Maisel; and three siblings Roger, Reuben and Rebecca. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church. Burial will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery, N.W. 35th and Menoken Road, Topeka. Mr. Spellmeier will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka, where family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and a rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. today.
