Pete Rethman 1936-2018

Walter “Pete” Rethman, 82, Holton, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center in Leavenworth.

He was born April 20, 1936, in Seneca, the son of John and Marcella Rettele Rethman. He graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul High School at Seneca.

Mr. Rethman was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated Pete’s Metal and Welding for many years.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton and Holton Knights of Columbus Council 4219.

He married Irene J. Taphorn on Oct. 8, 1966, in Omaha, Neb. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Jason Rethman, Tempe, Ariz., and Jarred Rethman and wife Amy, Netawaka; two brothers, John Rethman and wife Jerian, Seneca, and Wayne Rethman and wife Marlene, El Dorado; four sisters, Doris Fairfield, Kansas City, Judy Hein and husband Walter, Salina, Mary Sanders and husband Glenn, Morrill, and Carol Karnowski and husband Dan, Omaha, Neb.; and two grandchildren, Logan and Kolby Rethman. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marceil “Sis” Fouraker and Betty Himmelberg; and a brother, Tom Rethman.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, followed by visitation. Inurnment will be held later in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery at Seneca.
