Orion "Bud" Williams Jr. 1925-2017

 

Orion “Bud” Williams Jr., 92, Hoyt, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Manor Care Health Services in Topeka.

He was born July 2, 1925, at Hoyt, the son of Orion and Marga­ret Evans Williams. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1943.

Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft me­chanic after high school. He later farmed and worked as a mechanic at various shops, then worked as a mechanic and driver for OHSE Meat Company. In 1972, he moved his family to Big Bear Lake, Calif. where they owned and operated a dinner house for seven years. They returned to Hoyt in 1979 and he worked for the State of Kansas as a heating and air mechanic at the Capitol complex.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and Mayetta Knights of Columbus Council 9535. He had served as president of the Hoyt United Cemetery Board since 1992. He was a Boy Scout leader, served on the Hoyt Rural School Board and was a long-time member of the Capitol City Gun Club.

He married Beth Eileen Housh on Sept. 12, 1944, in Sioux City, Iowa. She survives.

Other survivors four sons, Wil­liam Roy Williams and wife Mary, Lakewood, Colo., Bernard Orion Williams and wife Carla, Law­rence, Bradley Joseph Williams and wife Debbie, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Bruce Leo Williams and wife Taunya, Phillipsburg; a brother, George F. Williams and wife Pat, Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was pre­ceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Danny Williams; and two sisters, Mary Creason and Grace Rohr.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25 at St. Fran­cis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Burial with military hon­ors will follow in Hoyt Cemetery. Mr. Williams will lie in state after 10 a.m. Sunday at Chapel Oaks Fu­neral Home in Hoyt, where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m., followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
