Naomi Cappleman 1935-2021
Naomi Sue Cappleman, 85, of Holton joined the Saints in Heaven on Monday, March 29, 2021.
Naomi was born April 2, 1935, in Horton. She was the daughter of Lewis and Mabel (Walton) Routh, who both preceded her in death.
Naomi lived almost the entirety of her life on farms about three miles south of Muscotah. At the age of 55, Naomi attended nursing school and became an LPN and later an RN. She gave compassionate care at various long-term facilities for many years. At the age of 80, she renewed her RN license.
Naomi was a talented musician who could play piano, organ and accordion. She was a charter member of Lakeview Faith Chapel of Holton, which she helped pioneer in 1983. She was musician and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was still the musician until February 2021.
Naomi married Wayne Cappleman on March 16, 1951. They celebrated their 70th anniversary on March 16, 2021. Together they raised five children.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne of The Pines in Holton; her sister, Janie Olson of Scotts Valley, Calif.; her sons, Steve Cappleman (Nancy) of Holton, David Cappleman (Debbie) of Raymore, Mo., and Duane Cappleman of Ashford, Ala.; her daughter, Jennalee Riley (Shawn) of Holton; her seven grandchildren, a stepgrandchild, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Naomi was also preceded in death by her son Paul Dean Cappleman on Feb. 16, 2017; infant grandson Derek William Wayne Cappleman on Aug. 25, 1982; and her sister, Marilyn Baird.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Muscotah Cemetery. Naomi will lie in state until 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 31.
