Nadine Stephenson 1927-2016
Mildred “Nadine” Stephenson, 89, Holton, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Archie, Mo., the daughter of Earnest L. and Sarah E. Duncan Hawkins. She graduated in 1945 from high school in Harrisonville, Mo. She had lived in Holton since 1958 and previously in Harrisonville, Mo., Carthage, Mo., and Topeka.
Mrs. Stephenson had worked eight years in banking in Carthage and Topeka. She also owned and operated Stephenson Gift Shop and Stephenson Paint Store with her husband for 29 years in Holton.
She was a member of First Christian Church, the All Star Club and Holton Hospital Auxiliary. She was a past member of Order of Eastern Star and past president and member of Holton Business Women.
She married Homer Dean “Steve” Stephenson on Aug. 4, 1946, in Harrisonville, Mo. He died Feb. 7, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy E. Ellett; and two brothers, Paul and James Hawkins.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey L. “Jeff” Stephenson, Santa Fe, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
