Mike Scheele 1951-2020

Michael Dean “Mike” Scheele, 68, Holton, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born Nov. 6, 1951, in Beatrice, Neb., the son of Donald Henry and Mary Louise White Scheele. He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1970 and received an associate degree in accounting from Phillips University in Enid, Okla.

Mr. Scheele worked 40 years for BNSF Railroad in both Nebraska and Kansas. He had been in Kansas since 1997 and retired as railroad clerk in 2011. He also worked as a football official and as a baseball umpire for 35 years.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Holton and an Eagle Scout in his youth.

He married Dana JoAnne Wiese on Aug. 6, 1983, in Lincoln, Neb. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Heather Marie Docherty and husband Scott II, Pittsburg; two sons, Donald Henry Scheele and wife Amanda, Topeka, and Richard Anthony Scheele and wife Jacqueline, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Patricia A. McReynolds and husband William, University Park, and Pamela Wendelin, Crete, Neb.; and six grandchildren, Kenneth, Henry, Nathaniel, Marley, Kinsley and Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gregory A. Scheele.

Celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at th First Christian Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery in Diller, Neb., at a later date. Family will receive friends following the service Friday at the church. Family members request everyone in attendance to wear Nebraska Cornhusker attire.
