Mike Hernandez 1952-2020

Michael “Mike” E. Hernandez, 67, Salina, formerly of Abilene, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina.

He was born July 9, 1952, in Salina, the son of Felix F. Hernandez Sr. and Mary Louise Alvarez. He graduated from Abilene High School.

Mr. Hernandez served in the Army National Guard. He worked with his stepfather in Llamas Construction for years and later worked for Smoky Hill Construction and with Greenfield Contractors-Bill Serrault, and also for McKee’s Pools. He had also been involved in cleaning jobs.

Survivors include his stepfather, Paul Llamas, Abilene; a daughter, Megan Dowdy, Wamego; a son, Tad Hernandez and wife Kelly, Holton; a stepdaughter, Summer Dame, Leander, Texas; a stepson, Jeff Dame, Salina; two sisters Katherine Dobkins and husband John, Abilene, and Mary Strunk, Wichita; a sister-in-law, Sandy Hernandez, Platte City, Mo.; a brother Bernie Hernandez and wife Annette, Abilene; grandchildren, Caleb, Landon and Kolton Hernandez and Taryn and Kasen Hall; stepgrandchild Klyee Dame-Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Felix Hernandez Jr.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Abilene with Father Don Zimmerman as celebrant. Burial will be held in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery near Abilene. Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Martin-Becker-Carlso Funeral Home in Abilene.
