Michael Holcomb 1963-2021

Michael Carroll Holcomb, 58, Holton, died Friday, March 19, 2021, at his home, with family by his side after a battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 29, 1963, in Elkin, N.C., the son of Fred C. and Carol Vestal Holcomb. He graduated in 1981 from North Wilkes High School in Hays, N.C.

Mr. Holcomb served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1989. He lived most of his life in Thurmond, N.C., moving to Holton in 1994. He was a machinist for BNSF Railway in Topeka for 22 years, retiring in 2019.

He was a member of I.A.M. Local Lodge 378 in Topeka, American Legion Post 44 and Holton American Legion Riders.

He married Alice Faye Holcomb on April 5, 1985, in Dawson Springs, Ky. She died Oct. 7, 2020.

Survivors include three sons, Shane Duncan and wife Joy, Topeka, Clinton Duncan, Holton, and Jason Duncan and wife Marty, Morton’s Gap, Ky.; a daughter, Ashley Boyle, Hiawatha; a sister, Maj Anne Wood and husband Tim, Thurmond, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Holton Cemetery. Mr. Holcomb will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.
