Michael Banks 1936-2015
Michael James Banks, Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015.
Michael was born Jan. 13, 1936, to John Harold and Bridget (Farrell) Banks. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1953.
Michael served our country for more than eight years in the Army National Guard. On Oct. 3, 1957, Michael married Shirley Deters. He retired from Goodyear on June 1, 1998, after 33 years of service. Michael was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, on July 14, 2008; his brothers, Gene Banks and Paul Banks; and his sister, Mary Strathman.
Michael is survived by his daughters, Sheila Fernkopf (Fred) and Sara Livergood (Mike); grandchildren, Sherri Farwell (Keith), David Fernkopf (Paul), Jake and Matt Livergood; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Savannah and Kendrick Farwell and foster great-granddaughter, Harley; his sister, Betty Bien; and sister-in-law, Mary Banks.
A parish rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church. Committal service will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
