Matthew Asher 1960-2020

Matthew Shawn Asher, 60, of Holton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born Sept. 1, 1960, in Topeka, the son of Jack Asher and Marlene Joyce (Iott) Asher-Shove. 

Matt graduated from Meriden High School in 1978 and later earned his bachelor’s degree. Matt worked as a nurse, teacher and pastor. 

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton and enjoyed repairing and selling grandfather clocks. 

Survivors include his brother, Mark Asher of Boardman, Ohio; two nieces, Courtney and Devon Asher; and a nephew, Andrew Asher. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Asher; his mother, Marlene Shove, on Nov. 25, 2020; and his stepfather, Richard Shove, in 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery, along with a graveside service for his mother, Marlene. Matt will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton beginning Sunday through Monday until 5 p.m.
