Matt Murphy 1971-2021

Matt Murphy 1971-2021

William Matthew “Matt” Murphy, 50, of Hardtner, formerly of Hoyt, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born Oct. 30, 1971 in Topeka to Norma and Jeff Murphy.

Matt graduated from Royal Valley High School. After receiving his associate’s degree from Cloud County Community College, Matt also attended Kansas State University.

He retired from Sam’s Club after 25 years to pursue a career as a food inspector for the Kansas State Department of Agriculture. Matt spent many years coaching various sports and catering, neither of which he ever really considered a job.

Matt was an avid sports fan, especially of the Kansas State Wildcats, the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs and of course his local teams. Matt loved cooking and trying new recipes and spending time with his grandkids. He was quiet, but gentle and loving. He had the heart of a server and never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh, even when he was consumed with pain.

Matt was strong in his faith and valued his relationship with Christ. While in Hoyt, Matt was a member of the Hoyt Baptist Church where he and Tammy were active in leading the youth group for many years. After moving to Kiowa, they attended Grace Bible Fellowship of Kiowa, where they became family.

Matt was preceded in death by his son, Mitchell Murphy; his mother, Norma Murphy; and his father, William Walker “Jeff” Murphy.

Survivors include wife of 14 years, Tammy Murphy; daughters, Clarissa Murphy of Capron, Okla., and Brooke Bollman and husband Jared of Wakita, Okla.; son, Jarrett Roy and Kaytlyn of Hoyt; five granddaughters; and a brother, Patrick Murphy, wife Cynthia and their children, Ellena and Donovan.

Funeral services for Matt will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the South Barber High School in Kiowa. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Kiowa. Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Then at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, there will be a memorial service to honor Matt’s life at Hoyt Baptist Church in Hoyt. www.lanmanmemorials.com. Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
