Mary May 1931-2022

Mary May, 90, of Holton, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on the morning of Monday, Feb. 14, 2022. With her beautiful heart, there could not be a more perfect day for her delivery into heaven than one that celebrates love.

She was born June 4, 1931, on a farm in Wabaunsee County to George and Anna (Tower) Pierson. She was the oldest of seven siblings.

Mary led a long life with many beautiful blooms as well as painful thorns and through it all she had the most sweet and cheerful disposition. She married young and was the proud and devoted mother of seven children.

After cooking and managing in restaurants for years, she became a food inspector for the Shawnee County Health Department and eventually became a field supervisor until she retired in 1993. After her retirement she moved to Holton. She served as president of the Holton Community Hospital Auxiliary for several years.

She had many good friends through the Holton Senior Center and was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist church. Her hands were always busy and she put love into everything she did. In life, she was like love itself: always patient, kind and enduring.

Mary is survived by her daughters Shirley Harris, Wileta Hughes, Katie Beachner and Leatrice Jim and her sons Ronald May and (Edmund) Pete Filby. She is also survived by her siblings: Muriel Lukens, Loretta Hundley, Dale Pierson and Lois Pelton. She had 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild at the time of her passing.

She is preceded in death by her son Donald May, her sister Rita Jensen, her brother Gary Pierson and her granddaughter Marianna “Mahne” Jim.

Services to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
